November 24, 2014

Its been a great week!

Mom, that's so awesome that you found a house!
that's ok if I help you guys move when I get home. It gives me something to do. haha.
woo hoo! thanksgiving break! :D keep going, you can do it!

Dad, Thanks for sending me a picture of the house! it looks awesome!
I love what a lot of people has said about living the gospel: I know it, I live it, I love it. that is what we need to do to live the gospel.

Transfers have come and gone. I AM STAYING IN BRIGHTON!!! I am going to die in the Fort Lupton ward and sister Huefner is going to kill me off. haha. I am so happy!! There are a couple of members that are going to throw me a going away party. My ward mission leader will give me a "funeral" hahahah! I love this ward. Its the best. I am never coming home!!
But in all seriousness, this mission has gone by so fast. I never comprehended that I was going to be on my last transfer, or "die" in a certain area. Its so crazy! how can this be? I love this mission. I have had some trying times and some amazing times (more amazing then trying). This mission has taught me so much that I don't know where to begin. Even though I haven't trained, I wouldn't have traded any of the sisters that I have been with to train. I have learned so much from them, and loved them.

So this week has been awesome. Even though we didn't get to see Colleen this week, (she is going through a TON), she still came to church! The bishop really wanted to meet with her, and she is getting help from the Relief Society as well. I love this ward!
This week for thanksgiving, we are going to have 3 dinners! I am going to die! all in the span of 5 and a half hours.  I....... am going........ to die. But its going to be great, because 2 are members with less active family members, and the other is just a whole bunch of non members. So exciting!

The Missionary vs. Youth breakfast was last Saturday, and it was awesome! We had to be there almost 2 hours early to cook breakfast. Our ward mission leader bought ham, eggs, pancakes and hash browns. It was so awesome to see the youth so excited to do missionary work. We even talked to them a little bit about missionary work and to encourage them to keep doing it, even though there is no more challenge.

That is pretty much it for the week!

Love you all!!

November 17, 2014

Hello!!!

Wow! this week went by fast! Wasn't I just here?

Mom, Transfers are next Monday. We find out this Saturday night of what is going on.
thanks for calling BYU! your awesome!
that's awesome about the grades!! but a B is better then a C :)
He hit a moose???????? what????? I am glad he is alright. that's just crazy!
I forget how bad the weather is up there. Here its -7 one night, and then the next day, its 30 degrees and sunny. Love it!!!!

Dad, that's so awesome that you love your job.
I am working my hardest. My comp and I have been working hard. This transfer has gone by soooooooo fast!

Gavin, Keep it up!
I heard MLC's are awesome.

This week was interesting/awesome/busy.
So, this week we found a new investigator!!!!
The bishop told us to see a less active whose son was not baptized. On Tuesday, we taught him and he is 9 years old. And he was very active in our lesson. We were talking to him about the atonement and the people didn't really like him and he died on the cross. His response "well, that's rude." HAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!! Its just a little more then rude. Then the mom told us to go see someone that she thought of. So we went to see her and she is quite interested in having us hear of what we have to say!! Its been awesome! we have about 3 referrals that people have told us to go see! its so awesome. Miracles everywhere!

Wednesday we had Zone Conference and that was awesome! the stake fed us Chick-Fil-A for lunch.  Soooooooooooo good!
We had a police officer talk to us about driving in the snow and just to be careful drivers. He served his mission in mexico.
It also talked a lot about change and how the mission is changing along with the missionaries. The goal for next year is to have 1001 baptisms for the mission. President Mendenhall is really on fire with this goal. There are 3 committees that are in the mission. One is the 1001 baptism goal, the 2nd is the Flood Denver committee which is all the missionaries are having a goal of handing out 5 book of Mormons a week with testimonies in them. and the 3rd is the Spirit of Elijah Committee which is we are introducing family history while tracting to get people interested in the church. Those two committees (the 2nd and the 3rd) will bring people into the waters of baptism. Which is why I keep asking for family history stories. *Cough cough*
Then, came the time for me to give my departing testimony because the conference was my last one. AAGH!!!! I never thought I would be up there. really weird.

Miracle!
On Friday was a very interesting day. We came out of our dinner, and we were about to go to our last appointment when we saw our phone and it had a TON of messages on it. The first one had our last appointment of the night cancel on us, and we were just kind of like "bummer. that kind of ruins our night. what do we want to do now?" so we looked at our other messages and we had 5 missed calls from a lady in our ward and a TON of texts from one of our investigators. We called the lady who called us about 5 times and she told us that she is getting
kicked out of her apartment, and needs a place to say tonight. SO we were frantically calling the bishop. and he just took down our information, and he called her. So when that was taken care of, we looked at our texts from our investigator, and she was having a mental breakdown. She ended up telling us her whole life story, and she told us that her friend (who is a member, but less active. kind of abusing her), said if she told anybody about what happened in her life then she won't get baptized, and the church will shun her. We had to calm her down and say that the atonement is real and she can repent from ALL of her sins. The church won't turn away anybody. And she got all excited, and she said she was ready for BAPTISM!!!
So she came to church on sunday with all of  her kids, and they loved it!!! Except for her little two year old didn't like Nursery. She cried and was taken to her ten minutes after class started. poor girl.
But anyway, SHE'S GOING TO GET BAPTIZED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! she's not on date yet, but we are going to set her on date on Wednesday!

Anyway, that's it for this week!

Love you all!!!

November 10, 2014

Hello!

This week was great!

Sorry about the homecoming date! its just a couple more weeks! :)

Mom, so about school. I was thinking about it this morning. So can you call the school of BYU Idaho and ask about the defer? because I was supposed to defer when I got my mission call, but I didn't do it for some dumb reason. can you call the school and ask about them? do I have to reapply again? or should I call them when I get home? or do you want me to get permission to call them? or you can just call them for me. that would be best. I really want to go to school in the fall.
I am glad you are feeling better!
I will keep Kim and Dwight in my prayers. :(

Dad, keep it up with work! you rock!
did you get your birthday card?

Gavin, some members traded the other bike in because it was too tall for me. so I got a kid/teen bike to ride on with the thick walled tires. So much easier.

This week was awesome.
So, we have been working hard on finding new referrals from members. we got a referral, and it was really hard to get a hold of them. so we finally got a hold of them, and he said to come back! woooo! its so awesome because he actually looked interested. super excited!
we got another referral from the bishop! he is actually an excommunicated member. we went and saw this guy and he really wants to come back to church. Miracle!
so we are also teaching our investigator Colleen and she is doing great! we taught her the first 3 commandments, and she was just on fire like "ok I can do this!" and she brought her kids with her and they are so cute! They haven't come to church yet because she really wants to find them church clothes. We have told her so many times that it doesn't matter what you are wearing they should just come. But she insists. So we told ward council, and the RS president told the Relief Society, and now the RS is just on top of it! I love this ward.
We have also been working with our usual less actives, and they are doing so good! Brother Betz is doing great! we talked to him about family history. and since he doesn't have the internet, the members of the ward were willing to use their home for the lesson. It was great!
So, little bike adventure this week: I was just riding down the street and all of a sudden I felt my skirt pull. Yes, I got my skirt caught in the bike. It didn't rip or anything, it just turned it black and blue. haha.
Anyway, that's pretty much it for the week.

Love you all!!!

November 3, 2014

Hello!!

Mom, that box was from the first ward? So amazing! I loved it!
Keep going on school! you can do it!
that's so sad about Bryan Maughan. They were awesome people. But they will definitely see each other again.
yup. Transfers are coming up on  November 24th. Super fast!

Dad, fall is here! there is no snow yet, but it is a little chilly today. It was really nice yesterday.
I would not take that big van if my life depended on it. haha. But if its the only car for me then ok. :)
Also can you ask grandma for family history stories and have her email me? Because we are having Zone Meeting in a couple of weeks and they are asking for family history stories. I NEED FAMILY HISTORY STORIES! (please?)

Gavin, you are awesome with being a zone leader. Satan gets in our heads and he brings us down. But Heavenly Father would not. He knows you are qualified for the work.

So, as you have probably read my heading for my email, I really do hate bikes. When we got them from the member, I rode it up and down the street, and I already popped the tire. I ran over 3 GOAT HEADS! Those obnoxious weeds that we had in Boise. So we had to go to walmart and get a tire repair kit and it took us 3 hours to change a tire, because we didn't know what the heck we were doing. and we had our member with us and she didn't know either! So, we finally figured it out, and we had to get air in it, but our members didn't have a bike pump. So, we went to the gas station to fill our tire with air (they provide free air), and after we filled it, we then decided to put it on. after about 10 minutes, we thought "well, that was a stupid idea" so this one guy came up to us and started fixing our bike. Miracle! So he fixed it and it was a boys bike, so I looked ridiculous! So we had other members give us a girls bike so the bar isn't super high. I rode it yesterday and it is great for stopping and talking to people. Its not so creepy when you are in a car. We still have our car but its just to save on miles so we can get to all of our areas, and to help with sister Huefner's knee. That is my little bike adventure.
Our ward had our Halloween party on Wednesday, and it was awesome!!! for the missionary challenge, we had the youth bring 15 people!! HOLY COW!!! It was so awesome!!!! their friends loved it and the youth won by far! We had only 1 person come for us, and we had a total of 13 points. the youth ended with 29 points. It was so awesome!!!! The youth are so much more missionary minded then they were before. So needless to say we are cooking breakfast for them on the 22nd of this month.
On Halloween, it was so much fun! we had to be in by 6 and we just had a little party in the basement of our members home. We watched Mountain of the Lord, and Legacy. I really like Legacy, and I have never seen Mountain of the Lord before. But they are awesome! Look it up! Even though they are REALLY cheesy and bad acting movies, its still fun to watch.

Anyway, that's it for the week!!!

Love you!!

Sister Rook

my package!

my comp drew this on my planner. Its from Nightmare Before Christmas

At the party, sister Huefner and I switched nametags, so we could dress up as each other. she straightened her hair and I curled mine. The nametags confused the bishop a little. haha
